Your role and responsibilities
This is the perfect position for a Nurse that is passionate about surgery. This includes supporting our veterinary surgeons in both first opinion and referral surgeries to ensure the highest quality of care is delivered to every patient in our care. You will also have the opportunity to perform schedule 3 procedures as part of our nurse lead surgical days. We offer gold standard care and always put our patients well being first.
The candidate will need to be at least 1 year qualified and have experience in anaesthesia/theatre practice. You will help to facilitate the efficient and effective flow of patients through the surgical day whilst ensuring the delivery of exceptional care to patients.
Expected responsibilities include:
- Building relationships with clients through effective communication during admission and discharge appointments.
- Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of the surgical prep area, theatres, dental suit and x-ray.
- Ensure accurate record keeping and accurate pricing is carried out.
- Ensure efficient and effective communication with other staff across departments.
- Support with triage system – carry out triage calls and appointments and liaise with nursing leads appropriately.
- Support diary management - Ensure all appointments suitable for RVN’s are carried out by RVN’s.
- Provide training to FOH/PCA team on relevant topics.
- Demonstrate an excellent work ethic and capability in all nursing duties including a high level of hygiene and the ability to recognise and undertake relevant actions with regards to infection control.
- Attend regular nursing team and surgical team meetings to review processes and protocols with a view to progressing and improving where possible.
- Ensure the risks of nosocomial infections and cross contamination are minimised by practicing good hygiene – maintenance and completion of infection control check lists in all wards
- Accurate record keeping, especially regarding kennel sheets, anaesthetic sheets, hospitalisation records.
- Oversee the maintenance and follow up on any faulty/broken equipment.
- Work closely with the Team Leaders and CNM’s to plan for the daily case load/patient flow and highlight any issues or concerns that may arise.
- Work with other disciplines to ensure active handovers received for patients moving between disciplines
- Attend team briefings and daily huddles to ensure effective and efficient communication.
- Involvement in aiding in research and development within the veterinary sector in multiple disciplines, as well as supported self-clinical progression.
- Engage with practice projects such as: PSS, CFC, DFC, RFC, IIE Bronze etc.
- Taking responsibility for your patients from admit to discharge including pricing for all treatments and procedures carried out.
- Work with the CNM’s and lead nurses to ensure all new nurses entering the business are supported to complete their induction.
- Participate in external CPD any training in-house, ensuring post-training feedback forms are completed/cascade of relevant information to appropriate team members.
- Encourage and participate in the use of VetSafe.
- Comply with the Health and Safety policies for the different areas of the practice/ hospital.
- Adhere to confidentiality relating to all aspect of the business including complying with and assisting with all requirements relating to GDPR compliance.
The successful candidate must have a love of working within an extremely varied and fast paced environment with a team of like-minded people. We are looking for someone who will not only go above and beyond for our patients, but for their colleagues too. Candidates must be qualified RVNs and will be proactive, enthusiastic, approachable, a great team player, able to use their own initiative and self-motivated. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to multi-task with a flexible approach to working are essential.
