More about the role
Our animal hospital in Merton has a hub design providing easy access between four consultation rooms, two dedicated operating theatres, a dental suite, imaging room and species-specific kennels and provides free or discounted vet care to pets whose owners receive certain means-tested benefits and live within the catchment area.
Your responsibilities will include:
Our regular working hours are Monday to Friday between 08.30 and 17:30. Due to the nature of our work, we occasionally need to cover duties outside of these hours, including early, evenings, lates, weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis.
Including Merton, Blue Cross has three London based animal hospitals, the other two are based in Hammersmith and Victoria. You will be required to work at these sites to cover weekends to enable us to deliver our services in these locations, usually one weekend in six.
About you
As an integral team member, the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and effective communication skills are really important, especially as you will often be the first point of our clients, forming strong bonds with them to ensure improved animal health and welfare.
It goes without saying the Veterinary Nurse role is rewarding and provides lots of opportunities for job satisfaction and happy outcomes but there are often times of sadness, so it is important you have the
resilience and ability to adapt to different situations.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Provision of nurse clinics to include vaccination clinics and education of the general public with regard to pet welfare
- Monitoring and administering treatments to patients in kennels and maintaining records.
- Radiography
- Maintaining anaesthesia and surgically assisting the veterinary surgeon in theatre
- Preparing samples in the laboratory for postage and performing some routine laboratory tests
- Providing great customer service and an experience inductive of maximising donations and promoting a positive and productive Blue Cross experience.
