We have an exciting opportunity for a Prep-room Assistant to join our excellent RCVS accredited hospital team, based in Bedford.
What is a prep room assistant?
At Scott Veterinary Clinic, our prep room assistants are key members of the clinical team, working alongside the vets and nurses to provide materials and supplies, to keep the work spaces hygienic and organised and to provide an extra pair of hands where needed! This position is varied and challenging, physically demanding and often fast paced. Its also incredibly rewarding!
The successful applicant must have a minimum of 5 GCSE’s Grade 4-9 (or equivalent), including Maths, English and Science. Previous work experience in animal care/veterinary practice is preferred but not essential. Training and supervision is provided by our experienced team. This position would suit someone looking to progress into Veterinary Nurse training.
You must be friendly and caring, able to work in a team and on your own, use your initiative and be proactive. Good communication skills are essential.
This is a full time, permanent position, working 40hrs per week over 5 days, Monday-Sunday (including some evenings). Starting salary is based on National Minimum Wage.
Some of your daily tasks will include:
· assisting the nursing team with maintaining general patient hygiene, wellbeing and providing enrichment for the animals in our care
· Distribution of supplies upon delivery, stocking up and stock rotation
· equipment maintenance
· sterilisation of surgical equipment
· washing, drying and storage of patient bedding, towels and scrubs
· kennel cleaning, disinfection and maintenance
· Assisting Vets and Nurses with patient examinations, securely toileting patients
· Maintenance of utility room
· Preparation and testing of routine lab samples
· Packaging, logging and posting of pathological samples – arranging delivery or collection where required
· Operation of Autoclaves
