Job Title: Patient Care Assistant
Salary: from £22,000
Location: Davies Veterinary Specialists, Manor Farm Business Park, Higham Gobion, Hitchin, SG5 3HR
Job Type: Permanent
Hours: 40 hours per week, 1:4 weekend rota with time back
Your role and responsibilities
We are seeking a passionate and enthusiastic Patient Care Assistant to join our vibrant PCA team and provide additional support to our Oncology department.
As a PCA you will provide work within our Wards team, providing essential support to our fantastic team of nurses to ensure the highest levels of patient care are provided and maintained. This is a varied, hands-on role. Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Supporting patients before, during and after their medical/surgical procedures.
- Housekeeping duties to include stock control, maintaining cleanliness and organisation of the wards and oncology department.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures at all times to include clinical tasks, infection control, patient restraint, waste disposal, infection control and health and safety policies.
To be successful in this role you need to be highly organised, have the physical, mental and emotional stamina required to work with seriously ill patients, and have the ability to cope with a fast-paced working environment. You should be a highly motivated team player with excellent communication skills and have the passion and drive for delivering outstanding client and patient care.
Although not a requirement of the role, many of our PCAs eventually progress onto further education programmes as Student Veterinary Nurses or take their PCA pathway further within Davies. Applicants will ideally hold a minimum of 5 GSCE’s grade A-C including English, Maths and Science. This will be essential should you wish to apply for one of our Student Veterinary Nurse positions in the future.
PCA experience is not necessary as full training will be provided, although it would be beneficial to have a basic knowledge of animal care and handling.
