Job description
The Microbiology department is looking to welcome a Clerical Assistant to the team on a full-time, permanent basis.
You will provide invaluable admin support to our lab managers and medical staff which will have a direct impact on the smooth running of the service.
- Answering all telephone enquiries from clinics, wards, and GP surgeries
- To assist in the timely, accurate and efficient analytical and reporting service.
- Responsible for maintenance, filing and archiving of laboratory reports.
- To co-ordinate and undertake data entry progress for Microbiology.
- Provide clerical support for microbiology manager(s) and Consultant Microbiologist.
- In the absence of the Consultant Microbiologist, to undertake accurate communication of messages and clinical enquiries.
- Telephoning GPs and doctors with microbiology results.
- Contacting hospital doctors for the Consultant Microbiologist.
- To generate pathology reports from the LIMs/ICE system as requested by the Consultant Microbiologist.
- Using computer system’s (programs) such as ICE, Spin, COSMIC and Microsoft office.
- To liaise and communicate in an appropriate manner with patients and members of the general public as appropriate.
- To maintain a professional appearance and behave in a professional manner at all times
- To communicate effectively on the telephone and face to face, being able to receive and give Information and results, as appropriate. Knowing when to refer to HCPC registered staff.
- Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to effective communication within the Department and users of the service.
- The downloading and enter reference report and give a hard copy of the results to the BMS on the related bench.
- Minute taking for meetings.
- Maintain the work rota for the consultants.
We employ 3,500 staff and serve a local population of around 350,000 people living in west Essex and east Hertfordshire, centred on the M11 corridor and the towns of Harlow, Bishop’s Stortford and Epping. Our extended catchment area incorporates a population of up to 500,000 and includes the areas of Hoddesdon, Cheshunt and Broxbourne in Hertfordshire.
