Job Title: Vessel Technician Apprentice

Location: Stockton

Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday (Days)

Rate of pay: National Living Wage

Suttons Tankers are an innovative national tanker haulage business, that operates a nationwide road tanker fleet which has been successfully serving the chemicals, gas, fuels, waste, and powders sectors for over 60 years, and is the largest chemical transporter in the UK.

Suttons Tankers is on the lookout for a dedicated Apprentice to become a fully qualified Vessel Technician. As out new Apprentice, you will join our Team along with being part of an Apprentice cohort of 5 Workshop Apprentices across the business. You will be working 5 days a week 08:00 to 16:30pm in our Stockton Workshop.

Starting date for this role would be July/August, assessment date will take place end of June.

During your apprenticeship you will learn how to carry out the following duties:

  • Ensuring Periodic Vessel Testing is completed in line with our Safe Operating Procedure
• Carrying out running defect repairs
• Diagnosing faults
• Working on General Purpose and Gas tanks
• Purging out of flammable vessels
• Repairs to Pneumatic operating systems
• Access to the inside of vessels to carry out inspections and repairs

You will gain the following skills and competencies:

  • Driven by a desire to produce work of the highest quality
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines within a high pressure, customer and cost focused environment

We are looking an apprentice to join our Team who can demonstrate:

  • A keen interest in motor vehicles and ability to follow instructions
  • Enthusiasm, commitment, and confidence
  • Able to work at heights or in confined spaces
  • An analytical and methodical way of thinking - previous interests in engineering, technology and diagnostics
  • Being highly motivated with an eye for detail.
  • That they are driven by own initiative
  • An excellent communicator with the ability to maintain positive relationships
  • Minimum grade C / 5 in English and Maths is preferred.
