Job description

We are currently recruiting 1xShift Skilled Fitter to join our team on a permanent basis.

Location: Cardiff

Salary: £31,000.32/year (£16.56/h inclusive of 20% shift allowance)

Working hours: 36h/ week (any hours worked above 36h/week will be classed as overtime and paid accordingly)

Work schedule:

  • Week one: Monday - Thursday 6:00am - 2:00pm; Friday 6:00am - 12:00pm
  • Week two: Monday - Thursday 2:00pm - 10:00pm; Friday 12:00pm - 6:00pm

QUALIFICATION REQUIRED

  • Completed apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 in relevant discipline.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Follow the relevant instructions, diagrams and any other specifications for overhauling traction and rolling stock components.
  • Ensure that the specified components are available and that they are in a usable condition and comply with organisation’s procedures for quality control.
  • Use the appropriate methods and techniques to disassemble/assemble the components.
  • Secure the components using the specified connectors and securing devices.
  • Check the completed disassembly/assembly to ensure that all activities have been completed and the finished disassembly/assembly meets the required specification/ operational tolerances.
  • Deal promptly with problems within own area of responsibility and report those that cannot be resolved.
  • Take precautions to prevent damage to components, tools and equipment during removal or replacement.
  • Check the condition of the removed components and record those that will require replacing.
  • Ensure the proper labelling and storing of the removed components in a designated location in line with organisational procedures.
  • Store or discard the removed components in line with organisational procedures.
  • Report any instances where the equipment fails to meet the required performance after adjustments or where there are identified defects outside the required adjustments.
  • Maintain documentation in line with the organisation’s procedures.
  • Participate as and when required in one-to-one meetings and undertake, as appropriate, courses/training/other developmental activities, relevant to the role.
  • Keep up to date with developments within the Company and other sector-wide practices, that influence the day-to-day activities within the role, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and any other relevant internal/external factors (e.g. Company policies and procedures, Quality Management standards, Health and Safety).
  • Ensure, in the course of employment, complete confidentiality is maintained in respect of the Company, its dealings, transactions and all other information relating to clients/customers/staff etc.
  • In addition to the duties and responsibilities outlined, you must be prepared to undertake such additional duties which may result from changing circumstances, but which may not of necessity change the general character or level of responsibility to the post.

SKILLS and EXPERIENCE

  • Skilled level in appropriate trade.
  • The ability to successfully achieve set targets and quality standards.
  • A genuine commitment to achieving high standards and an eye for detail to monitor the quality of work done.
  • Able to follow the relevant instructions, diagrams and any other specifications.
  • Able to carry out manual handling duties.
  • The ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to learn quickly and work under pressure maintaining a high level of accuracy and detail.
  • Experience of safe working practices in a safety critical workplace (Desirable).
