The User Research Associate supports research and discovery activities across the Product and User Experience teams. They support and drive good research practice at all stages of the product development process, from research operations to taking on individual research projects to enhance our understanding of our users.
About our team:
- You will report into the User Experience Team. We’re a small, collaborative group of researchers, designers and analysts focused on the end-to-end experience of our products: from discovery and access to navigation, engagement and conversion. Our mission is to support the building of bridges to knowledge by making those bridges useful, usable, discoverable and accessible.

Could you be our new Junior UX Designer? Are you?
- Experienced in managing research operations, including participant recruitment, incentives, insights sharing, and managing processes and documentation.
- Experienced with common qualitative and quantitative research methods, in particular interviews, observation, usability testing, focus groups and surveys.
- Experienced in working with product or user experience teams.
- Able to translate product and user objectives into good research questions.
- Able to analyse quantitative data to answer questions, including using web analytics and insights tools.
- Knowledgeable about web accessibility with an appreciation for the importance of inclusive research.
- Knowledge of / interest in academic publishing or higher education is advantageous.
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:
- Act as the point person for user research operations within the Product and UX teams. In particular, maintain our user research database and insights repository. Proactively suggest improvements to our research processes.
- Co-ordinate the department’s continuous discovery efforts, in particular ensuring that a regular stream of users is available to the product teams for research.
- Triage and resolve ad-hoc requests for assistance with user research, particularly user recruitment when proactive outreach is needed.
- Work with Product and UX teams to develop appropriate research strategies for their products.
- Support research practice as needed, including leading usability tests, note taking, competitor research, facilitating interviews and designing surveys.
- Independently prioritise and take on cross-product research projects, with a particular emphasis on longitudinal, generative research such as diary studies and observation studies.
- Liaise with colleagues in other departments to find out what their research priorities and recent findings are, cascading relevant information to your team.
- Effectively communicate user research findings to the team and the wider organisation, so that they share a strong and empathetic understanding of their users (including presentations at show and tells and research reports/briefings).
- Contribute to a culture of team involvement in user research, team analysis, design rationale and decision making based on user needs.
- Maintain and help to build our user research playbook of best practice guidelines.
Qualifications & Education:
