Main ResponsibilitiesWe are looking for a Unit Manager to join our busy and fast paced department. You will be part of the Business Support team and support News teams across the country. You will have responsibility for managing the department’s annual budget as well as complying with BBC policies and have a close relationship with department’s other Unit Manager, the Business Partner, Management team, Scheduling & Production Support teams, Finance and other production teams. Applicants should see themselves as enablers who can lead and support teams to ensure they continue to deliver great journalism to audiences while being able to challenge processes and procedures where needed. You should be financially confident with an excellent grasp on systems and have a strong ability to interpret financial data to a non-financial audience.
- Support the BBC Scotland News annual budget process including providing regular financial and business reporting and forecasts.
- Manage and support headcount processes including flexible workforce (freelancers and FTC’s)
- Support the smooth day to day running of the business and production support functions as well as leading on specific projects.
- Manage a team of Schedulers and Production Support
- Have an excellent understanding and ability to deal with all non-Editorial processes including HR / recruitment, T&C’s and other non-editorial policies that impact teams.
- Ability to demonstrate a good understanding of, and interest in, the output and workflows of the News department.
- Demonstrable experience in leading teams and delivering a portfolio of projects alongside the ability to juggle the demands of day to day priorities against longer term projects.
- Experience of managing budgets within a department with ability to adapt, change and adjust priorities to meet financial targets.
- Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to influence staff at all levels.
