IQUW is a speciality (re)insurer at Lloyd’s (Syndicate 1856) underwriting a diverse range of Property, Commercial and Speciality (re)insurance products from Cargo and Marine to Political Violence, Terror and War. The role
IQUW is looking for a highly numerate and analytical individual to contribute to its technical underwriting. The role would support the development of tools and processes from within the underwriting division to analyse and control its portfolio.
Key responsibilities
- Act as the linchpin between underwriting teams and the various technical function Teams, including Exposure Management, Pricing and Portfolio Optimisation.
- Monitor the performance of the insurance portfolio by tracking key metrics, identifying areas of concern, and recommending appropriate actions in conjunction with the Portfolio Optimisation team.
- Data augmentation. Use additional data sources to understand more about the risk characteristics of a transaction or class of business.
- Research and analyse potential transactions, including the evaluation of the risk and return characteristics of potential deals.
- Work with underwriting teams to build out a strong data infrastructure and ensure data processes are efficient.
- Collaborate with other underwriting divisions to share knowledge and insights and develop a collegiate culture.
- Work with outsource providers to ensure the quality and consistency of ingested data.
- Work with underwriting and pricing teams to ensure that pricing models are continuously updated to reflect our latest view of risk.
- Work with Exposure Management to ensure optimal use of capital and understand potential marginal impact of potential transactions.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience
- Degree educated, with a master’s or PhD degree preferred.
- Highly analytical with a flair for organising and interpretation large sets of data.
- Strong mathematical intuition.
- Knowledge or interest in developing skills in one or more coding languages: C++, SQL, Python.
- Knowledge or interest in learning the principles and mathematical theory of insurance.
