BAT UK IS LOOKING FOR AN UNDERGRADUATE INTERN – THP CONSUMABLE DISCOVERY – fixed term 12 months

BACKGROUND AND CONTEXT
The THP Consumable Discovery Team, part of New Categories R&D, are responsible for the development of novel tobacco consumables for tobacco heating products in support of the broader New Categories Vision.
The intern will be primarily responsible for the execution of assigned tasks using laboratory equipment and expertise across a range of projects and activities within the THP Consumable Discovery Team to support the delivery of the commercial vision of a product in the R&D pipeline.
This role will utilise knowledge of New Categories lab methodologies and broad scientific principles to assist the team in executing the product development plan and expanding technical knowledge of New Category products.
As New Categories continues to grow, it is crucial that BAT provides industry leadership in managing the future portfolio for THP relative to BAT’s ambitions and goals.
ROLE SUMMARY
What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?
The role holder will manage several key projects to support the development of novel THP consumables ensuring they meet the project brief and consumer benefits. The role holder will be responsible for leading projects including designing and executing experimental studies, data analysis and interpretation providing recommendations to internal and/or external stakeholders.
Excellent collaboration and communication skills with a natural curiosity are critical to this role.

WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR
- Manging projects/key activities (timelines and accountabilities) to progress the project(s) forward.
- Designing and executing experiments to answer key objectives and identify areas for improvement.
- Data analysis and interpretation to provide recommendations to the wider team.
- Collaboration with various internal and/or external teams to achieve key deliverables.
- Assisting and working closely with the wider team focussing on upskilling personal breadth and depth of technical knowledge.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- General laboratory skills and attention to detail;
- The ability to design and conduct experiments with a methodical approach;
- An understanding of laboratory testing activities, methodologies and equipment capabilities to carry out assigned duties to fulfil project needs;
- Data interpretation skills;
- Excellent presentation and communication skills to liaise with multiple departments and stakeholders;
- Ability to lead-self effectively;
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
