Job description
BML has a vacancy for a full-time Unmanned Air Vehicle (UAV) Technician. This role is to assist with both the construction and flying of our UAVs, with UAV component design opportunities. This post has been created as a result of an expansion in BML UAV Research and Development, as well as the need to develop and manufacture UAVs for our customers. The successful applicant will work in a small team at the BML Workshop, and will work on a wide variety of tasks for customers, including the UK Ministry of Defence.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the mechanical construction and wiring up of prototype UAVs.
- Assist with production of various UAV components.
- Pilot a UAV – complying with UK CAA CAP722a regulations.
- Contribute to the design of UAV components using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software.
- Assist with the operation of UAVs.
- Create and review UAV related documentation, such as construction and user manuals.
- Interact with customers during demonstrations which take place all over the UK and occasionally abroad.
Selection Criteria - essential
- Must be a British National (since we perform work for the UK MOD).
- Must have a driving licence.
- Must be prepared to work full time at our Workshop in Newnham, near Stevenage, and also out in the field whilst carrying out UAV testing or demonstrations.
- Strong interest in aeronautics and a desire to learn about the design and building of UAVs.
- Knowledge of or strong desire to learn how to manually fly UAVs, as well as managing UAV automated flights.
- Ability to work on a wide variety of projects without supervision.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure within a small team to meet a deadline.
- Ability to write and maintain technical documentation.
Selection criteria - desirable
- Experience using CAD.
- Experience building and flying remote-controlled aircraft.
- Experience with an autopilot system (in particular, ArduPilot).
- Workshop experience - familiarity with precision workshop machinery and hand tools.
- Experience with a variety of composite materials.
Salary range: £30,000 to £38,000
