What is the placement?
This summer placement scheme will allow you to discover your potential and show Dehns what you can bring to the firm. It is an excellent first-hand opportunity to see what it is like to work as a Patent or Trade Mark Attorney. It is also a perfect way to get to know Dehns, and to give you a chance to see if Dehns is the right firm for you.
As the scheme forms a key part of the recruitment process, your participation and performance will be monitored throughout your time at Dehns. At the end of the scheme, you may be offered an interview for a permanent trainee position and your performance on the scheme will provide you with a significant advantage.
In the placement you can expect:
- To be involved with real client work from day one.

Who can apply?
- They are looking for penultimate-year students to apply to this summer placement scheme, and ideally you will need to be available for employment in summer/autumn 2024.
- You will need to have, or expect to gain, a minimum 2.1 result in your undergraduate level degree. For prospective patent attorneys, you must have a technical/STEM degree subject, typically science, engineering or physics; for prospective trade mark attorneys, there are no specific degree disciplines.
- You should also be able to demonstrate an excellent academic history gained at A-Level and GCSE (or equivalents)
- You should be passionate about Dehns and looking to work in this industry after graduation
- You will be treated like a trainee so we are looking for candidates to be hard-working and resilient.
