Job description

WEA have an exciting opportunity for a part time adult skills tutor who can deliver on a range of courses including employability and customer services. You may also teach on other courses; in which case we would love to hear more from you. We are particularly interested in hearing from tutors who can deliver high quality, learner centred teaching, to adult learners in the following subject areas:

  • Retail
  • Hospitality
  • Business Admin / Customer Service
  • Health and Social Care
  • Childcare
  • Functional skills
  • ESOL
  • First Aid
  • Occupational Studies & Employability Skills

You will provide the highest possible quality teaching and learning to a group of learners, in both face-to-face classroom and online classroom environments. You will also take pride in embedding numeracy, literacy and digital skills into your lessons. You will have excellent digital skills and experience of teaching using Virtual Learning Environments and Video Conferencing software.

As part of this role, you will join the Norfolk and Suffolk area team to teach adults across a range of levels, in a range of different environments, your day-to-day will be varied, and your teaching skills will drive forward our provision to reach those who are furthest from the labour market and education. You will actively take part in team meetings, standardisation meetings and attend our regular CPD updates.

Providing engaging teaching, learning and assessment with a creative and supportive approach to teaching, adapting to a range of learning styles, and ability to differentiate delivery to learners with mixed abilities to develop learners knowledge and understanding.

Undertaking effective initial assessments and diagnostic activities and preparing course materials, ensuring a wide range of formative and summative assessment practices, which motivates and stretches learners to reach their objectives. You will plan, prepare and teach courses face to face and online, using Zoom/Teams and Canvas, the WEA`s virtual learning environment. Supporting the wider delivery of a quality curriculum offer that supports the work of the Association.

As a Tutor, you should have:

  • Teaching qualification (PCGE, CertEd, DET or equivalent), level 5 specialism and have IQA and Assessor qualifications;
  • Experience of design and implementation of innovative learning, schemes of work and lesson plans;
  • Experience in a range of initial assessment and diagnostic tools;
  • A thorough understanding of RARPA as well as the EIF and the quality processes that underpin your delivery;
  • Experience of working with adults in hard-to-reach areas who may face multiple barriers to education;
  • Strong working knowledge of Ofsteds Education Inspection Framework;
  • A strong team work ethic. We like to collaborate and support each other;
