We are constructing a state-of-the-art underground mine to enable the extraction of Polyhalite – a unique multi-nutrient fertiliser – along with the necessary infrastructure both above and below ground that will be required for transport, processing, and distribution.
POLY4 is our flagship multi-nutrient fertiliser product. Made from polyhalite, it contains four of the six macro-nutrients and many micronutrients that are essential to plant growth. It allows farmers to maximize their crop yield, increase quality and improve soil structure with one simple product.
Job Description
-Join us a a Tunnel Engineer to provide engineering expertise, on site supervision and technical assurance to ensure compliance with the relevant UK Legislation and managing engineering work scopes and technical queries in regard to the construction works of the tunnel.
- Consistently apply Safety & Health principles in all team interactions and take personal responsibility for safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities
- Collect and summarise the specific risks within working area and implement plans/system to avoid these risks
- Review and assess impact of critical risks, and monitor effectiveness of critical controls relevant to work area
- Identify PUEs and monitor critical control performance within teams
- Embed critical controls into daily work practices of teams
Manage Safety & Health systems within work area
- Assess the safety leadership capabilities of direct reports
- Assess the 'fitness for duty' of team members and take any subsequent necessary action
- Engage in physical safety checks, interventions and coaching
- Create safety reports and manage analysis of KPIs based on available data
- Report deficiencies and implement plans to address deficiencies
- Facilitate continual safety audits to check that all safety requirements are being met
- Regular attendance in the tunnel to monitor activity on behalf of the mine operator.
- Review of designs and technical submissions against functional specifications.
- Monitoring and ensuring the completion of daily reports and accurate record keeping of technical challenges, delays and incident.
- Ensure that works comply with technical specifications, applicable legislation, approvals and standards, as well as internal safety and quality requirements.
- Collaboration with the Tunnelling contractor.to ensure schedule performance.
- Monitoring compliance to all RAMS, procedures and SHE policies, undertaking inspections, leading by example and ensuring information is disseminated to the wider team.
- Auditing the Tunnelling Contractor to ensure compliance with ITP’s and review quality documentation in conjunction with quality team.
- Proactively identify and flag risks, challenges, and opportunities that new technology could support to progressively increase system automation and reduce/remove manual activities.
- Qualifications
-Relevant Qualification at Degree Level – (Mining Engineering or Civil Engineering). - Preferably registered with a UK recognised engineering institute as a professional / charted engineer.
- 10+ years’ experience on large scale tunnelling projects.
- Working knowledge and understanding of tunnelling processes and geotechnical principles and tunnelling equipment.
- Working knowledge in the methods and techniques used in the design of tunnel linings including segmental, jacked, cast insitu, sprayed concrete, masonry/blockwork, rock bolted/anchored and unlined.
- Interpretation of quality assurance and quality control reports.
- TBM, Sprayed Concrete Lining (SCL) is advantageous
- Knowledge and experience of working under both Mines Regulations 2014 and CDM Regulations 2015.
- Understand the relationship between safety, quality, cost, and schedule.
- Understanding of tunnel and shaft support systems in soft ground and/or rock.

-A valid UK country driving license is required for this role - This role may require a company medical assessment in line with the role requirements.
- A background screening application is also required for this role.
