Straight Truck Driver
Position reports to: Dispatch Supervisor and Cartage Manager
FLSA Status: Non- Exempt
Summary of Job Description:
Ø Drives gasoline or diesel powered straight truck, applying knowledge of driving regulations, to safely transport products by performing the following duties:
Essential Duties include, but are not limited to:
Ø Must maintain a current/valid Class D driver’s license
Ø Minimum of 2 years applicable driving experience, including driving in winter/harsh weather conditions
Ø Drives truck to destination according to dispatch direction and customer requirements in order to achieve on time performance
Ø Load/unload boxes or pallets of customer products, in a safe and efficient manner, by hand or using material handling equipment
Ø Inspects truck before and after trips and submits reports indicating conditions in a timely manner, including mechanical problems and safety concerns
Ø Maintains driver log per Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations
Ø Count and confirm all shipments are complete prior to loading and after pick ups
Ø Inventory/inspect cargo for any damaged goods/containers
Ø Confirm that all pick and delivery documentation is filled out correctly and completed daily – including daily drivers manifest
Ø Call in any discrepancies or issues at time of pick up or delivery
Ø Send all POD’s at time of delivery
Ø Responsible for performing routine vehicle maintenance, including fueling and repairs
Ø Compliance to company policies with respect to the employee handbook, safety regulations and the use of company supplied equipment/resources
Ø Other duties may be assigned, as required
Competency Requirements Include:
Ø Contact/communicate – Always contact dispatch before departing any pick up or delivery location
Ø Secure loads in vehicle during transit, using PLC load stabilizers, locks and seals
Ø Inventory/inspect cargo to ensure shipping manifest is correct and to check for any damaged goods/containers
Ø Maneuvers truck into loading or unloading positions
Ø Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner applying common sense understanding
Ø Able to speak and write clearly and informatively and present data effectively and accurately
Ø Able to read and interpret written information
Ø Manage difficult or emotional customer situations
Ø Maintain confidentiality
Ø Balance individual and team responsibilities
Ø Consistently at work and on time
Ø Demonstrate accuracy and attention to detail by verifying piece count and freight condition before signing any BOL or delivery receipt.
Education and/or Experience:
Ø High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and 2 years of related experience

Physical Demands:
Ø While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and occasionally required to stand, walk and stoop, kneel, crouch and climb. The employee must also use hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning and moving materials, manipulating items and climbing in and out of the vehicle. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. This job also requires the ability to respond quickly to a signal (sound, light, picture) when it appears and the ability to choose quickly between two or more movements in response to two or more different signals using two or more limbs simultaneously. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color and peripheral vision. Depth perception is also required to judge the distance between objects and well as night vision in order to see under low lighting conditions. Also required to climb in and out of vehicle numerous times daily.
