About Our Client
Our client is a specialist Transport and Distribution business focusing on Rail, Road and other services. Our client require a full time, permanent Transport Planner to join their business in planning routes across the UK.
Job Description
- Plan the daily road schedule and control it the following day to ensure vehicles are used cost effectively to deliver and collect containers on time.
- Continually review and revise the road schedule in the light of information regarding customer priorities and requirements. Maintain regular contact with Customers & Contract Managers to keep up to date with customer demands.
- When problems with deliveries occur, ensure customers are notified promptly and dealt with politely and courteously. Resolve customer problems as a matter of priority.
- Deal with discipline and performance problems promptly and in liaison with the Transport Manager.
- Maintain regular contact with the Drivers and Sub Contractors to ensure the daily schedule is running smoothly and that deliveries and collections are being made in good time and in conjunction with customer requirements. Keep up to date with whereabouts of Drivers, predicting potential risks and taking proactive steps to maximise service levels.
- Prepare the drivers start times and ensure overtime worked is controlled within Driver T&Cs.
- Communicate with the Transport Manager to identify commercial opportunities in the area.
- Maintain accurate communication with Customers and Contract Managers regarding progress of jobs, container numbers, claims, and in particular, late runners in accordance with company procedures and through use of Customers own IT systems.
- Ensure that drivers are advised of specific customer and job requirements.
- Ensure all legislative requirements are met with regard to driver's hours, working time regulations and dangerous goods movements etc.
- Ensure containers are booked in and out of depots, Ports & out based depots through use of systems including VBS.
- Assist with the production of reports and KPIs associated with the Road Operation.
- Assist with compliance & fleet functions of the Road Operation particularly regarding service inspections, MOTs and breakdowns.
- Undertake other duties as directed by the Transport Manager commensurate with your post.

- Previous Transport Planning experience
- Previous Container experience
- Road Operations Legislation experience
