We are looking for a Central Transport Planner to join our team at Head Office in Normanton. This is a brand new and exciting opportunity for the right candidate to join our expanding logistics team.
Transport Planner Principle Responsibilities:
- Undertake effective planning and coordination of the Group Transport function
- Undertake effective management of Transport costs
- Develop and deliver transport strategies through collaboration with other functions
Duties for the Transport Planner include:
Undertake effective planning and coordination of the Group transport function
- Achieve maximum utilisation of vehicles, drivers and trade plate drivers through efficient planning.
- Plan customer’s vehicle collection or delivery on time and in the most efficient and cost effective way to achieve optimum margin potential whilst complying with Transport Legislation and Health & Safety.
- Re-plan vehicle movements when necessary due to delays.
- Complete and resolve all outstanding planning issues or pending concerns.
- Arrange additional resources or alternative options to effectively cover all movements.
- Analyse vehicle optimisation and drivers productivity.
- Network modelling, peak of peak times.
- Ensure that legislation regarding driver hours and tachographs is adhered to at all times.
- Meet and exceed all transport KPIs and objectives
Undertake effective management of Transport costs
- Understand subcontractor’s earning requirements to ensure mutual productivity.
- Ensure all additional costs are communicated and agreed at the time; minimising the potential for future recovery queries.
- Provide regular reporting of all costs and progress against targets.
- Maintain control over contractor utilisation and minimise costs of external resources.
- Assist the Transport Manager with subcontractor performance reviews, attending review meetings where necessary and support improvement plans.
- Work closely with Transport Manager to ensure the best and most cost effective resource is used to deliver an exceptional service.
The Transport Planner will develop and deliver transport strategies through collaboration with other functions
- Build strong relationships with key stakeholders and other functions to engage in logistics strategies.
- Plan and implement initiatives to improve routing and efficiencies
Monday to Friday, 8.00am - 5.00pm.
It is desired but not essential that the successful candidate has experience using planning software such as Paragon or Ortec.
