An opportunity has arisen within the Transport Booking Team as a Transport Coordinator joining our supportive & friendly team.This will involve working a shift pattern covering a variety of shifts including days/ evenings/weekends.
To assist the Head of Patient Transport Services in assuring ambulance patient transport is provided to eligible patients’ creating flow in a timely and professional manner in line with Trust guidelines. To liaise with wards and departments to ensure safe transfer of patients from ward/clinical areas using patient transport services into the discharge lounge and to their onward destination.
The role requires a high standard of administration skills, accuracy being a key essential skill, excellent customer service and good experience/knowledge of the patient transport service.
The role will include the responsibility for booking all non emergency patient transport for inpatients/outpatients, transfers and discharges, escalating any issues direct to the Trust’s transport lead and in the absence of the transport lead to the duty nurse in charge in the Discharge Lounge. As part of this role regular communication with the Trust’s non-emergency patient transport provider and the Trust’s transport lead is paramount.
The post holder will be expected to assist other members of the Transport Team in ambulance transport bookings. To support with the training, delegate tasks and give clear guidance and support in the day to day running of the office.
We are looking for an individual who is flexible, excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to work under pressure in an extremely busy team and consistently work to a high standard of efficiency.
Complete and process all patient transport booking demands from wards using non emergency patient transport i.e. ambulances, voluntary organisations such as British Red Cross etc. to include patients arriving in the discharge lounge from other areas of the Trust. Ability and confidence to chase and challenge wards/staff in respect of eligibility criteria for non-emergency patient transport, and/or other modes of transport required using the correct mobility assessment needs, and ensuring that patients are fully ready with medication/letters/notes and other specific documentation in order to prevent abortive journeys.
Screens and evaluates all booking requests for all patient transport journeys, escalating to the appropriate transport provider if any amendments/cancellations are required keeping clear, accurate and concise documentation.
Track journeys for existing patients and chase control reference the allocation of patients awaiting transport, using the escalation procedures aligned to it.
Respond to all telephone calls into the booking office in a timely manner, taking accurate details from the wards/clinical areas.
To be fully experienced with patient transport booking procedures, both on e-booking and through telephone bookings.
