Our Scottish construction lawyers advise on projects across the UK, Europe and beyond as part of our core practice.

Our Team in Scotland

Our team is listed as Tier 1 in the Legal 500 in both the Construction, as well as the Energy and Infrastructure, categories for Scotland. Similarly, our team is listed as Tier 1 by Chambers & Partners in the Construction, Energy (excl. oil & gas), and Projects categories for Scotland.

Julia Maguireis recognised for her non-contentious construction practice, with particular expertise in the energy sector.

Michael Allanadvises clients on all aspects of non-contentious construction matters, including large-scale development projects.

Nicholas Carlin, specialising in supply chain arrangements in the renewable energy sphere, is noted by Legal500 as being a “Next Generation Partner”.

Those directories recognise us for:

  • being “widely considered to be the pre-eminent firm in the Scottish construction market, offering remarkable depth of talent in both the contentious and non-contentious spaces”;
  • particular proficiency in matters pertaining to the energy industry, both in the UK and internationally;

We act for major property developers in Scotland and in the UK, over half of the UK's top 50 contractors, a large number of the top contractors worldwide, major energy utilities across Europe and an impressive range of private and public sector clients active in the construction space both domestically and abroad.

What our Clients say:

The Pinsent Masons team does very good work for us. They provide appropriate and reliable senior and junior resource to achieve this and support us proactively commercially.” (hub South West Scotland)

They have been involved in this project since the very start, from the early stages of procurement up to Financial Close, and have worked hand in glove with us throughout. They brought with them a variety of experiences and lessons learned on other projects which they shared, and applied to the work they did for us. They have drawn on this experience to suggest solutions to issues we faced; this was very useful.” (Triton Knoll Offshore Wind Farm Limited)

They do not just give us legal solutions, they also give actual commercial and pragmatic approaches to problems. Some law firms just want to give the legal points and do not really understand the commercial needs of the clients. That is something which I have not experienced with Pinsent Masons, as they have always been very cognisant of our commercial needs, and they really try to work with that in terms of the legal options available.” (GrainCorp Limited)

The Candidate Required

The team's pipeline is such that our vacancy would best suit a candidate well versed in infrastructure and energy related transactional (non-contentious) construction work. However, we would also consider applicants with a strong background in transactional construction work outside of those sectors, combined with a genuine interest in pursuing their career in a different direction.

Overall, the successful candidate will have the opportunity of exposure to both construction and projects work across a wide range of sectors, both across the UK and internationally, so experience and flexibility in that regard is an advantage.

The successful candidate will:

  • have gained experience in a large commercial firm, in-house legal team or local authority;
  • be a team player, able to forge strong working relationships with colleagues in an agile environment;
  • be technically strong and exercise good commercial judgment; and
  • have the interpersonal skills necessary for this client-facing role.

The role is wide-ranging, will focus on and include:

  • developing on-going relationships with an existing client base as well as pitching for new opportunities;
  • developing close working relationships as part of an international team; and
  • the opportunity to be involved in work in the very best national and international construction work.

What will we offer you?

  • We are a market leading, dynamic and growing global team who work together to produce outstanding results for our clients.
