JDT Utilities are looking for an individual to train as a Health & Safety advisor for our Specialist Engineering Group (SEG) based in Westerham, Surrey.
Although, this position is for a trainee, experience and/or H&S qualifications are preferred but not required, all training will provided to the individual in order to fulfil the role and all applicants will be ethically considered.
The Company - JDT Utilities is a Private Limited Company established in 2010 and providing engineering services to the gas utilities industry with our main clients being Cadent and SGN.
Our core activity is Tier 1 mains replacement operations of which we deliver for SGN around 110Km per year across Wessex and London, and for Cadent over 65Km per year in North London.
We are also SGN’s principal supplier for major R6/IP/MP (SEG) operations including place-works, non-proxy, holders etc and we provide up to 35 engineering teams into SGN’s Connections and ELR contract.
We currently employ 95 staff and manage up to 350 subcontractors from our Dorset based head office and our Operations Groups’ depots in Wimborne, Erith, Romford and Westerham.

The Role - Accountable to the Health & Safety Manager for the delivery of health, safety and environmental advice and support to the Specialist Engineering Group, and specifically the application of, and compliance with the JDT Safety Management System (SMS), identifying and controlling safety risk whilst promoting a positive HS&E culture across the company and supporting the safe achievement of operational goals.
Candidate Responsibilities
Support allocated Operations Group and fulfil the duties directed in the company HS&E Policy.
Assist and advise Ops group management and personnel on matters of operational health and safety.
Ensure Ops Group is aware of its legal HS&E duties. Have a working knowledge of and advise on compliance with relevant direction and statutory/mandatory policies, guidance and codes of practice.
Support the H&S Manager with the application of HS&E Management System, assuring compliance and reviewing its effectiveness. Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
Deliver training, mentoring and education within the Ops Group, ensuring all are aware of their HS&E responsibilities in the delivery of company outputs, identify and address shortfalls and spread best practice.
Support and advise managers to develop safe systems of work associated with high risk activities, planning safe and effective methods, both preventative and remedial.
Support and advise managers, supervisors and operatives to conduct detailed site and task risk assessments that enable them to operate on the basis of risk.
Conduct regular audits and inspections as per policy, compile and record findings, investigate accidents and incidents, producing internal & external reports (including RIDDOR). Support H&S Manager with production of analysis, management reports and safety bulletins.
Attend external Client and 3rd Party H&S meetings/forums, briefing as required and reporting relevant information back into the company. Implement changes and updates to policies and procedures.
Promote health across the Ops Group and encourage a positive HS&E culture within the staff.
Undertake other reasonable tasks and duties as deemed necessary by the H&S manager or MD.
Promote a diverse and inclusive working environment for all employees.
Essential Requirements
IT Literate
Full UK Driver License
Ability to client face/deliver presentations
Desirable Requirements
NEBOSH General Certificate
National Examination Board of Occupational H&S
Experience in gas/utilities
Note: Those that have no Gas Mains Replacement knowledge are still eligible to apply.
Those already qualified with NEBOSH are able to apply , salary negotiable.
Starting Salary : £30,000.00 incrementally rising to £42,000.00 per annum 2 years of service to the Company.
