Starting in September 2023, as part of the Council’s Annual Apprenticeship Programme we have an amazing career development opportunity to gain work experience whilst studying towards a Degree qualification. As this is an apprenticeship opportunity, your course fees will be funded and so you will accrue no University fees or student debt and will also be earning throughout the duration of the apprenticeship.

As a Trainee Environmental Health Officer, you will gain valuable work experience supporting our residents to live and work in safe healthy environments. Working alongside experienced colleagues in the Environmental Health Team you will spend your time out in the community working with local businesses and members of the public developing your knowledge and skills in carrying out a range of inspections and providing education on Food Safety, Animal Welfare, and Environmental Protection and much more.

This role will require some out of hours work on evenings and weekends and the ability to or willingness to work towards independent travel around the borough (via car, bus or other modes of transport) would be essential.
To be shortlisted for interview you will need to demonstrate in your application:
· A minimum of 112 UCAS points or equivalent expected or already obtained
· GCSE (or equivalent) English Language, Maths and a Science subject at Grade C / 4 or above
· Recent voluntary/personal experience in a relevant regulated environment e.g. Food Safety & Hygiene, Housing/Property Management, Public Health
· Good negotiating, influencing and persuading skills
· Effective listening, written and spoken communications skills
· Effective IT Skills
· Ability to analyse, interpret and present data and solve problems in a logical manner
· Commitment to own personal and professional development
· A team player who is not afraid to try something new
PLEASE NOTE: You must not hold an existing qualification at the same or higher level as this apprenticeship in the same or similar subject.
