Trainee Data Analyst
The Strategic Planning team at St Mary’s University is recruiting a Trainee Data Analyst. If you have an interest in the world of education, higher education policy and an eye for working with data then this could be the role for you. Experience in higher education and data is desirable, but not essential for this role. What is essential is a genuine interest in the subject matter, good professional writing skills and an eye for numbers.
The Strategic Planning team supports the university in using data and information to drive improved performance and decision making. The role holder will work alongside a team of analysts to provide insight and analysis for the wider University as well as providing support for the preparation of the University’s statutory returns. This is a varied and interesting role ideally suited to someone considering a planning, policy or administrative career in Higher Education.
Job Details
Main Duties include:
- Working with other members of the analytical team, produce reports and analysis on Key Performance Indicators, competitor analysis and benchmarking information based on student, staff and finance data.
- Undertake analysis of data in order to identify data inconsistencies and inaccuracies
- Analyse student surveys and national and international university league tables.
- Work with the Student Returns Manager to support the timely completion of statutory data returns.
- Support the implementation of a new Business Intelligence tool (Microsoft Power BI), undertaking relevant training in order to support development.
- Provide support for the annual planning process in which Faculties/Institutes and Professional Services present their plans.
- Coordinate data requests that are submitted to the team and work with colleagues in SPO to ensure these are completed.
- Provide ad-hoc administrative support for teh Director of Strategic Planning
