Overview
You’ll be working as a Trainee Company Secretary in our award-winning company secretarial business, Company Matters , one of the largest company secretarial providers in the UK and well-known for its expertise in corporate governance advisory services and company secretarial administration.
You will train as a Charted Secretary by completing the Chartered Governance Qualifying Programme or the LLM Corporate Governance and Law/Grad CG Postgraduate qualification, or you may have partially or fully completed your studies and be seeking work experience.
You will provide company secretarial support to our internal and external clients, proactively contributing to the commercial success of our business. You will be part of our close-knit team, gaining experience in board meeting preparation and minute taking responsibilities, statutory and regulatory compliance and governance best practice.
You’ll be based either full-time or on a hybrid basis from our Gresham Street office in London, so you need to be within a commutable distance.
- Carrying out your Trainee Company Secretary duties in a professional manner, in accordance with the policies and procedures, legal and regulatory expectations, drawing on the support of the team when required
- Developing and maintaining an understanding of any relevant legal and regulatory requirements whilst undertaking all required technical training to apply to the job role
- Ensuring the quality and accuracy of the work you produce
- Effectively building and managing work relationships with colleagues and identifying and engaging with clients and intermediaries in relation to your own portfolio
- The drive and desire to work within a dynamic, fast-paced environment
- A comprehensive understanding of and commitment to the company secretarial profession
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels with internal and external customers and stakeholders, experience preferably gained in a client or customer facing environment
- A creative approach to problem solving, with an innate ability to remain calm under pressure
- A proactive and flexible approach to your workload, with exceptional organisational skills and the ability to handle conflicting deadlines
- A team player, friendly with the ability to be proactive, flexible and upbeat in difficult situations
- Great Microsoft Office skills, with a high level of accuracy and good attention to detail
- Business and commercial awareness, with experience within or an understanding of a professional services environment
- A recognised degree or Masters, preferable in Law, Governance, Business or Finance at a 2:1 or above
- An understanding of the basic principles around UK Company Law, regulation and best practice would be useful, as would experience of working in other jurisdictions including the Channel Islands, Ireland, Asia and Luxembourg
