Trainee Accountant
£33,351 - £43,815 per annum
3.5 Year Fixed Term Contract

As a Trainee Accountant, you will study to become a CCAB qualified accountant with the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA). Qualification training takes around three years to complete and you will be provided with full financial support towards your training to become a qualified CIPFA Member.
The role will see you take on a series of placements. The work is strategic and practical; technical and people-led. You’ll spend time focusing on operations, from month and year ends to risk management, to financial control. And throughout, you’ll build the knowledge, experience and contacts to progress at speed.
The post holder is accountable to one of: Head of Finance for Strategic Finance, Business Partnering, Financial Control.
The post-holder must be able to co-ordinate, analyse and summarise data.
The post holder should develop the full set of skills and experience required for a newly-qualified accountant whilst widening responsibilities and increasingly working independently.
These will include supporting the closure of accounts and budget development processes, and assisting with the full range of financial advice, accounting and financial management services as required.
Qualification
- Educated to degree level with a minimum achievement of at least 2:2 or a qualified AAT Accountant.
Knowledge and experience in
- Ability to work confidently and accurately with numerical data.
- Excellent written and oral/presentation skills.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise workload.
- Ability to analyse data/information with a view to drawing logical and accurate conclusions.

The London Borough of Newham is located only 5 miles east of London. It is well positioned with access to all major networks in London and the south east. It is well connected by public transport with, bus, tube and DLR. When the Crossrail service opens it will call at Custom House close to our council offices and also Stratford station and from there to central London. The London City Airport which serves major European cities is located at Royal Albert Dock. Newham has the youngest overall population in the country. It was one of the six host boroughs for the 2012 Summer Olympics and contains most of the Olympic Park including the London Stadium. It has a thriving arts quarter with the Theatre Royal Stratford East offering excellent entertainment for all the family. There is the University of East London which has two campuses in Newham, one in Stratford and another next to the regenerated Royal Albert Dock. It also has a large Westfield shopping Centre in Stratford which has all the major retailers there.
