Shop Assistant Job Description

30 hours per week, working 5 out of 7 days.

What’s the Role?

The Shop Assistant will provide a positive customer service experience in our shop by serving our customers with confidence, advising customers on baked goods selection, taking payments, preparing food and hot drinks to order. You will also maintain a clean, tidy and organised shop throughout the day, and after business hours help clean and prepare the shop for the next day.

What will I have to do?

· Deliver consistent levels of food preparation, cooking and service in a fast-paced environment ensuring standards for quality, customer service and health and safety are met.

· Complete and maintain shop documentation to meet legislative guidelines.

· Actively seek opportunities to delight and ‘wow’ customers by taking an enthusiastic, outgoing and positive approach.

· Confidently demonstrate belief in the products Pullin’s has on offer showing excellent product knowledge. Use appropriate opportunities to upsell and promote additional products.

· Monitor the visual appeal and the availability of baked goods on display reporting low baked goods stock to team members in a timely manner.

· Provide accurate information on hot beverages, demonstrate how to make a variety of products, follow customer requirements for strength and flavour, ensure ingredients are stored correctly and use specialist equipment appropriately.

· Take feedback from customers seriously and proactively resolve any customer complaints made in store at first point of contact. Take care to relay complaint details to the Shop Manager.

· Manage stock levels by maintaining stock, rotating and checking expiration dates arranging their use accordingly.

· Count the contents of cash register drawer at the end of each shift, maintaining receipts, and records.

· Responsible for opening and closing the store correctly and keeping the shop key safe.

· Organise own work and have the confidence to ask for guidance, fully participate in performance reviews and training.

· Confidently use IT systems including the retail management system used named EPOS.

· Ensure hygiene standards are maintained for both the building and staff liaising with the Shop Manager/Retail Manger/ Office/Maintenance/ Technical/HR/H&S to do so.

· Maintain a clean, tidy and organised shop throughout the day, and after business hours help clean and prepare the shop for the next day.

· Work with integrity in a safe, honest and trustworthy manner.

· Be highly organised and have the ability to multi task whilst maintaining and engaging friendly and helpful attitude to customers.

· Take pride in own role through a consistently positive and professional approach, and be aware of the impact of personal behaviour within the team. Work in a fair and empathetic manner to support team members.

· Perform other duties on request or deputise for the line manager when necessary.

Pullins (Bakers) Ltd is a family business who puts the customer first. On occasion, you may be asked to carry out a role outside of your normal job spec. It is a requirement that, when necessary, all members of our team are flexible and willing to cross in to other roles if asked to do so.
