Track Technical Assistant
Salary: Maximum of £70,206
Location: Stratford Depot

Overview of project/role
To provide a technical planning, information and support function to the Assistant Track Infrastructure Manager to ensure that Track maintenance works and inspections are completed to safety, quality, cost, and time targets.
Key Accountabilities
- Plan and prioritise own work and work of others
- Project manage small internal projects and contract work which involve liaison and an understanding of contract compliance
- Analyse TRV/AVI data and propose corrective works where appropriate
- Maintain records of (for example) rail defects and rail stress condition and report on recommended action
- Allocate resources – labour, plant and equipment when necessary
- Plan and organise engineer’s trains as necessary
- Plan and organise trials of new plant, equipment and PPE and produce associated performance reports
- Undertake inspections in order to identify problems and develop solutions in a logical and practical manner
- Assess the impact of new equipment, legislation, and procedures and improve existing methods, procedures, systems, and documentation
- Develop new working methods and procedures
- Undertake surveys using equipment such as optical levels and track gauges, often in poor weather and poor light conditions and produce comprehensive track condition reports.
- Conduct briefings, make presentations, and issue work instructions to staff and managers at all levels
- Meet with customers and resolve complaints
- Produce clear, concise, and accurate work instructions from what is often highly technical engineering information
- Produce well structured and presented reports, minutes, and programmes
- Regularly meet contractors and internal maintenance teams to plan, agree, and review schedules, costs and logistics
- Liaise with suppliers to agree purchase type, volume, costs and delivery dates
- Regularly meet with other units to ensure projects are properly planned and executed
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
- National Certificate in Engineering or similar (Essential)
- HNC or higher in Civil or Railway Engineering (Desirable)
- Track Accustomed (Essential), Track Competent or Protection Master (Desirable)
- Working knowledge of engineering and railway rules, regulations, and legislation (Essential)
- Knowledge of track plant, tools and equipment, construction, inspection, and maintenance techniques (Desirable)
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook (Essential)
- Understanding of track design and track quality reports (Desirable)
- Hold track safety critical licence T001 (Desirable), T002 (Desirable)
- PWTEH – Protecting workers on the track engineering hours – (Essential)
- Proven experience of working in the track environment (Essential)
- Experience of undertaking track inspections and surveys (Desirable)
