Thermal Commodity Engineer
Description
We are looking for an experienced Thermal Commodity Design Engineer to join our team in Milton Keynes (hybrid). This system design focused position performs established technical tasks at the sub-system and/or component level for current and future high voltage battery products within New Power Business Unit. This involves taking cooling system designs from concept to production and delivering against the design engineering delivery plan. Due to the product centered nature of this position, they are very often a central point of coordination and decision making between product line engineers, customer teams, systems engineers, purchasing, suppliers and manufacturing.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Applying cooling system knowledge to drive the technical specifications and CAD geometry of current and future high voltage battery programs
- Obtaining input from stakeholders such as technical managers, project leaders, other product and manufacturing engineers and supplier partners to deliver information and recommendations that lead to quality product decisions and robust system designs
- Applying academic knowledge and existing experience to take action and make decisions that progress projects forward without sacrificing project quality expectations. Examples of these decisions include day to day project details, analysis led design, coordination across discipline areas that are necessary to make quality progress
- Applying and improving processes such as Engineering Standard Work (ESW), iDFMEA, Failure Incident Review Group (FIRG) and tools such as 7-step problem solving, design review checklist and other specialized tools required to support the processes and enable high
- Delivering independent execution of established and emerging work processes and systems, while still developing technology or product knowledge
- Supporting the development and improvement of work processes and systems across a functional discipline area within a business unit site
- Supporting work amongst technicians and temporary student employees, assisting in the transfer of knowledge to lesser experienced engineers through either indirect (scope of influence) leadership
- Providing support and guidance to influence technical direction within a project team and continues to develop proficiency in the competency areas critical to success in the role
- Operating as a recognized specialist in a discipline or product area within the immediate team
Qualifications
To be successful in this role you will need experience of the following:
- Product Development Execution, Monitoring and Control
- Product Failure Mode Avoidance
- Understanding of Product Function Modeling, Simulation and Analysis for thermal systems
- Product Verification and Validation Management
- Technical Documentation
- Design, development and delivery of thermal sub systems to key gateways
- Use of 3D CAD software and PLM applications (e.g. CREO / Windchill)
Education, Licenses, Certifications
College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required.
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Experience
Prior Senior or Lead Design Engineer equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of 3D CAD design, technical problem solving and quality decision making. You will be able to speak as an authority on the thermal management component design for a high voltage battery system. Your ability to mange complex information will be a benefit, as will your skills in networking, communication and decision making.
You will be a self-starter able to plan and manage engineering tasks across multiple projects and have excellent engineering communication and presentation skills with the ability to tailor your communication style to your audience and quickly adapt and react to project changes at short notice.
