We have an exciting opportunity for a full time band 3 Therapy Assistant to work within therapy service. We are looking for an individual who is highly motivated and enthusiastic seeking an opportunity to work within the cardiorespiratory team.

Your role will involve working alongside physiotherapists and occupational therapists on the wards as part of the therapy team supporting with assessment through to a safe and timely discharge from hospital. In addition to this you would be supporting the delivery of rehabilitation groups and clinics.

Applicants should be able to evidence relevant therapy based competencies (at band 2 or band 3 level within the NHS), to demonstrate the ability to be able to implement prescribed rehabilitation programmes for a range of conditions. You will receive a robust competency training programme which will be further developed through regular training and supervision sessions with senior members of the team.

You will be required to work a shift pattern of 09:00 – 17:00 and will be expected to participate in 7 day working rotas; including weekend and bank holiday shifts.

  • To provide a high standard of therapy assistant service to ward, group and clinic based patients.
  • To carry out tasks delegated from professionally registered staff, appropriate within clear guidelines and to supervise less experienced staff in the clinical areas, ensuring patient focused care is delivered.
  • To be responsible for the continuation of rehabilitation programmes during weekdays, weekends and bank holidays.
  • To enable patients to achieve their optimum level of independence in mobility and activities of daily living
  • The post holder will participate as a member of the multi-disciplinary team assisting with specified duties and to take responsibility for planning their own work duties.
Based in the North East of England we provide a range of hospital and community health services from our leading facilities including the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Blaydon urgent care centre and Bensham Hospital, all within Gateshead.

Established in 2005, we were one of the first foundation trusts in the country and since then have consistently achieved the highest levels of care for patients.

As a group we employ around 4,200 staff and currently provide 600 hospital beds across Gateshead. Our primary focus is on providing excellent general health services to our local community complemented by key specialist areas including Gynaecology, maternity, palliative care and old age psychiatry.

Alongside a full range of local hospital services, we provide breast screening services for Gateshead, South Tyneside, Sunderland and parts of Durham – and we are the North Eastern hub for the National Bowel Cancer and AAA Screening Programmes, covering a population of around seven million people.
  • To work primarily with the Cardiorespiratory Team which would include working across acute and community services as required.
  • To work with physiotherapists with planning and facilitating the patient’s progression through the treatment plan, within the rehabilitation plan set out for the patient.
  • To provide cross team cover as required within the limits of competencies.
  • To be responsible for implementing prescribed treatment programmes with an allocated caseload, following an initial screening by a registered Physiotherapist.
  • To work with Physiotherapists with planning and facilitating the patient’s progression through the treatment plan, within the protocols/plans set out by the registered therapists.
  • To take responsibility for delegated caseload and report outcomes appropriately, including reporting urgent and important information promptly to the appropriate person.
  • To be responsible for prioritising and planning of own daily programme of work
  • To document interventions accurately and promptly and to keep the overseeing therapist
