Role: Termination of Pregnancy (ToP) Surgeon
Location: London
Contract type: Permanent or sessional
Salary: £100,449.76 - £113,382 FTE (dependant on experience)
£800 - £1200 per day for sessional colleagues (dependant on experience)
The Role
Reporting to the Associate Clinical Director for Surgical Abortion, the ToP Surgeon provides safe and appropriate clinical care for clients undergoing first trimester and early second trimester abortion. The ToP Surgeon will provide safe, non-judgemental, and effective care for clients accessing services. You will be required to act within the guidelines of the General Medical Council, Care Quality Commission, Department of Health and Social Care, and other regulatory bodies to perform abortion care services.
ToP Surgeons are expected to work flexibly and collaboratively with other clinical and operational team members. You are required to follow MSI UK’s policies, but where it is clinically necessary to deviate from established policies, rationale must be clearly documented in the client notes.
You will be competent to perform first trimester surgical abortion using manual and/or electric suction aspiration, in addition to using dilatation and evacuation (D&E) to perform second trimester surgical abortion. Candidates who are competent to 18+6 weeks gestation but are committed to additional training will be considered. MSI UK offer comprehensive training opportunities to deliver surgical termination to 23 week and 6 days.

To perform this role, it is essential that you have the following experience and skills:
- Experience in sexual health, and general gynaecology is desirable.
- Ability to work in a diverse and inclusive environment, respecting and collaborating with all individuals equally, and with a commitment to overcome bias and prejudice
- Basic surgical skills
- Skilled in verbal and written communication with good IT skills
- Strong organisational skills especially relating to busy surgical lists
Qualifications
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practice.
- Membership of the relevant colleges i.e., Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists or Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health is desirable
