Job description
The Technical Operations, Resources and services group is seeking to appoint a Technician in the Service Sector team.
The Service Sector team supports a wide range of courses which cross a number of academic disciplines. The main activities are to provide high quality technical support for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research and commercial clients in the specialist kitchen facilities and also to support a diverse range of other activities for the University. Working within the Service Sector team you will be supporting food processing, nutrition and hospitality subject areas. Main duties will include the preparation of equipment and food, providing technical assistance during food preparation, production and product development practical kitchen sessions.
In this role there is an expectation that you will have a comprehensive knowledge of food, including preparation skills. You will have a sound understanding of both kitchen and food safety practice, and preferably some experience of working in a commercial food processing environment.
You would be expected to have a working knowledge of food processing technology. Food product development plays a key role within this job so experience of this would be preferred
You will also be expected to be proactive and well-motivated, showing initiative and creativity to solve problems as they arise.
With excellent interpersonal and communication skills, you will carry out training & demonstrating of equipment operation to students and staff during the normal lab program and during undergraduate and postgraduate projects.
It is expected that you will be involved occasionally with technical teams from other areas of the Service and also be supporting other food related laboratories. Some flexibility towards working hours is also required.
