Job description

Technical Operations, Resources and Services Team (TORS) is part of the Student and Academic Services directorate and is made up of highly qualified, specialist and experienced members of staff. We provide support to a vast and diverse range of teaching, research, and commercial activities across the University. TORS staff work closely with other University services such as Health and Safety, Finance and Estates.
Our role is to ensure that specialist spaces are fully accessible and add value to the student experience. We are signatories to the Technician Commitment initiative and partner affiliates of the National Technician Development Centre.
The Engineering Workshops Technical Team
The Engineering Workshops technical team is committed to providing a highly skilled service to support academics, students, and researchers in engineering disciplines such as aeronautics automotive, mechanical testing, additive manufacturing, metrology, mechanics, and precision machining.
In the Technician role you will help ensure the delivery of an excellent staff and student experience, supporting teaching and research activities in a number of our engineering laboratories.
You must have qualifications or experience working within an engineering discipline and a willingness to develop your own technical skills.
You will use your skills and knowledge to provide in-class and project support by giving equipment demonstrations and operational guidance as well as contribute to supporting other key business areas as prioritised by the colleges and technical services.
The role requires you to work closely with other members of the technical team to ensure that specialist equipment is well maintained and accessible when required whilst taking into consideration the needs of all stakeholders, and relevant health and safety standards.
