The opportunity
Based in the Desktop Services Team, this role is responsible for the technical support, administration, and development of the university’s client computing environment, along with associated services and cloud-based service provisions. You will be joining the Team at an exciting time as we transition from traditional endpoint management approaches to Cloud-managed Modern Desktops and Mobile Device Management as well as help us work towards various Cyber Security accreditations.
Alongside your Desktop services colleagues you'll also work closely with technical colleagues across IT and provide 3rd line support to our customers including professional services staff, academic staff and our students.
What you’ll do – key duties
- Acting as a technical design architect for Cardiff Metropolitan University’s client computing technologies and application services. Designing and/or conducting architectural reviews on these and advising on technical requirements, security and service implications.
- Liaising with schools and professional services to establish and evaluate business requirements, as necessary, and providing advice on technical and security implications.
- Providing technical support for business-critical IT systems and applications services to ensure their effective operation, security, and availability. Analysing and diagnosing faults, where necessary, and implementing robust and innovative solutions.
- Configuration of client systems and applications infrastructure to meet business requirements and to provide a robust, secure service.
What you’ll bring – essential experience & strengths
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft network environment and associated technologies.
- Knowledge of IT service provision with awareness of the implications of changes and upgrades.
- Knowledge of mobile computing operating systems and applications.
- Considerable experience supporting and/or implementing Windows Client and application server platforms.
- Experience in planning and co-ordinating technical implementation and support tasks.
What you’ll have - essential qualifications
- HND or Degree in IT related subject.
