NUVIA UK's Technical Services & Consulting department, a fast growing team striving to create a multidisciplinary team to offer clients the best range of talent, are recruiting for a Technical Support Enginer. This role is embedded into Babcock on either a permanent or contract basis. Location wise you can be based at Devonport Dockyard in Plymouth or our Warrington office on a hybrid basis. Alternatively you can work remote with some travel to site.
This role is also suitable for Early Careers Engineers and Degree Apprentices who need a role to gain experience and demonstrate ability for their Professional Training Attributes.
Overall Department Direction:
In order to deliver the MoD’s submarine and warship programmes, a significant programme of infrastructure investment is required on the Devonport site. The ‘Major Infrastructure Projects’ (MIP) Business Unit has been established to support this.
One of the key scope elements within MIP is establishing a defuel capability for out of service submarines, which is delivered under the programme banner of Defuel23. This work comprises of a number of interrelated projects to develop various multi-disciplinary infrastructure systems, with an overall value in excess of £100m.
The Dock Readiness project is delivering the infrastructure upgrades for the existing dry dock that will be used for the submarine defuels. The dry dock is within a nuclear licensed site.
Multiple work packages form the Dock Readiness project. This role is part of that Engineering Team that is delivering the designs for each of those work packages.
Main Purpose of Role:
The primary purpose of the role is to assist and support the Design Management Team to provide the framework and governance for the engineering team to deliver the project scope. This will include the likes of the following;
- Undertake a range of technical administration activities, which may include desk top investigations and field visits to gather information to respond to specific issues.
- Monitor engineering processes and identify areas where improvement can be made.
- Assemble and publish routine and ad hoc reports to management, including analysis of performance with commentary.
- Analyse, interpret and evaluate relevant functional information, concepts and ideas and use these to develop solutions to problems.
- Apply knowledge of engineering principles to implement new processes as guided by the Design Management Team.
- Undertake tasks within the Information Management and BIM areas of the project in order to ensure successful implementation of the BIM principles.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Competences:
The candidate must demonstrate;
- Being able to work on their own or as part of a wider team, taking responsibility for the quality of their work to deliver value and insight.
- Identify solutions to problems, identify areas of business improvement and propose how to achieve improvement.
- An ability to gain an understanding and following health, safety and environmental guidelines.
- Knowledge of relevant computer applications including tools such as SharePoint and Excel.
- The ability to follow an engineering process and maintain accurate records.
- Numerate and computer literate.
- Good communications and interpersonal skills.
- Editorial and briefing skills and clear spoken and written English.
- An ability to understand project, contract and engineering management principles and their application.
Qualifications:
- The job requires a background in engineering support or business support and requires good numeracy, problem solving and a structured approach to understanding and analysing information and processes.
- As a minimum, STEM based qualifications will have been successfully completed.
