We have an exciting opportunity within our Engineering Department at Ilford Depot as a Technical Support Engineer.

The Role

We are currently looking for a Technical Support Engineer who will serve as the primary point of contact for technical advice within our engineering function. This role is crucial in ensuring the safety and reliability of our fleets, as well as managing any issues or faults that arise.

Your responsibilities will include acting as the bridge between the Engineering Technical team, Fleet Service Delivery, and our operational railway. You will also play a key role in identifying and resolving first-line faults and repeat defects through tailored scope of works. You will lead the investigation into safety incidents or safety related unit defects ensuring short term mitigation is put in place whilst keeping accurate and auditable reports of any defects.

As the Technical Support Engineer, you will also be expected to be available for on-call service to handle major incidents and recovery efforts on the running line. Clear and concise communication with Service Delivery, as well as planning and Service Control colleagues, will be essential in this role.

Finally, you will be required to use onboard intelligent systems such as OTMR, CCTV and RTM to ensure root cause of incidents are established. You may be required to represent the company at inquiries, hearing and courts as necessary.

What we are looking for

The ideal candidate for this position should have a strong knowledge of the rail industry, coupled with a relevant Engineering qualification. Additionally, we are seeking someone who can effectively convert external events into internal impact statements and actions. It is important that this individual possess impressive interpersonal skills, as they will be required to influence internal stakeholders as well as external bodies and be capable of problem-solving. A comprehensive understanding of key business drivers from both an operational and commercial perspective is also a must-have for this role.
