Technical Support Specialist I

Job Summary:
The incumbent performs basic technical support tasks on computers and related equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responds to help desk calls for first level technical support.
- Configures, installs, upgrades, supports and assists end users with desktop workstation hardware, software, network printers and other peripheral devices.
- Maintains inventory, IP addressing and physical location information for desktop workstation hardware, software, network printers and other peripheral devices.
- Performs basic system administration tasks relating to user account creation, password changes and associated batch file and logon scripting tasks.
- Provides basic ad hoc user training for desktop operating systems and applications.
- Follows, so far as reasonably practicable, established safety procedures and standards
- Acts as Senior Technical Support Specialist as assigned.

Working Conditions:
Required to work primarily inside. May be exposed to dust or dirt. Regular lifting of up to 40 lbs. Travel between City buildings.
Required Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:
- 2 year diploma in Computer studies
- Industry standard certification (Microsoft, A+, Net+, etc.)
- Previous Experience - 2 year generalist computer support
- On–the–Job Experience – 6 Months
- Class 5 Driver's License
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong commitment to customer service
- Excellent time management skills
- Excellent organizational abilities
- Excellent ability to multitask and prioritize
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
Examples of Equipment to Operate:
Computer hardware such as: Desktop and laptop computers and peripherals, printers and network hardware.
Computer software such as: Microsoft desktop operating systems, Microsoft Office suite, current Municipal software suite, Microsoft network operating systems
