What will you be doing?
You will be engaged in a wide range of research activities supporting the bioinformatics work across the department for example, helping to process and analyse omics experiments such as single cell and spatial transcriptomics datasets. You will play an active role in building collaborations and networks. Through bioinformatics support you will look to boost publication research output and impact across the school. You will keep up to date on the latest bioinformatics methods and be encouraged to reach out to groups who may benefit from these methods. Where needed you will help in the department with basic bioinformatics support and helping others improve their bioinformatics skillset. You may also be required to process datasets on high performance compute clusters or make use of cloud computing infrastructure.
You should apply if
The ideal candidate will be excited about being at the forefront of biomedical research and supporting this research through their bioinformatics skills.
You will:
- Naturally look to work with others and are enthusiastic about a shared scientific approach
- Have a strong interest in biology and medicine translating research into novel insights and treatments
- Demonstrate effective communication skills
- Have strong computational skills
- Be well organised and maintain a high standard of work
Good starting bioinformatics skills are desirable for this position however, for a suitably motivated and talented candidate there will be opportunity to learn on the job and bioinformatics support and training will be provided from the line manager.
We are looking for someone who is both interested in applying standard pipelines to datasets and to upskill in emerging new bioinformatics technologies (e.g. machine learning). The post will provide extensive opportunities for career progression, building your research profile and applying exciting new technologies.
