Job description
We are working hard to create a better place and your expert knowledge of fisheries conservation and ecology with excellent communication skills can help us do this by proactively influencing everything the Environment Agency does. This is a key role within the team and we are looking for a combination of personal and professional skills to help us manage the challenges within the fisheries environment.
Working with a wide range of teams both at a local and national level, as well as external partners, you will proactively identify and influence opportunities to deliver fisheries benefits. You will provide specialist input into projects and programmes managed by others.
You will provide technical leadership and support to the wider team, as well as support for the team leader on the technical direction and priorities.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
We’re looking for candidates with enthusiasm and the right skills to succeed in the role. It’s not necessary to have experience of working in the Environment Agency. Training and support will be provided. For more information about working for the Environment Agency and what we do visit our careers page environmentagencycareers.co.uk
You will have well-developed communication skills, great customer focus and have the confidence to build effective relationships with external partners and internal teams.
You will be able to demonstrate the following:
- Thorough understanding of the ecological requirements of fisheries aquatic habitats and species management.
- Educated to degree level in an appropriate environmental discipline, or minimum 3 years of relevant fisheries experience.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Water Framework Directive and other environmental and fisheries legislation.
- Positive technical leadership qualities to coach/mentor others to improve their capabilities.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise effectively to maximise the delivery of outcomes.
The role is based at Rivers House, Blandford office (DT11 8ST), with flexible working arrangements in place to support your work/life balance. This role does involve travel across the area and work in the field. A full UK driving licence is essential.
We’re looking for applicants who believe that having a truly diverse, representative, and engaged workforce is fundamental to protect the environment and effectively serve our communities.
