Job description
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the South Wessex Fisheries, Biodiversity & Geomorphology team. As the Fisheries Technical Specialist in the team, you will lead and co-ordinate our fisheries input into a wide range of Environment Agency activities, including Water Company planning, flood and coastal risk management programmes, environmental permitting, environment programmes and Water Framework Directive activities.
We are working hard to create a better place and your expert knowledge of fisheries conservation and ecology with excellent communication skills can help us do this by proactively influencing everything the Environment Agency does. This is a key role within the team and we are looking for a combination of personal and professional skills to help us manage the challenges within the fisheries environment.
Working with a wide range of teams both at a local and national level, as well as external partners, you will proactively identify and influence opportunities to deliver fisheries benefits. You will provide specialist input into projects and programmes managed by others.
You will provide technical leadership and support to the wider team, as well as support for the team leader on the technical direction and priorities.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
We’re looking for candidates with enthusiasm and the right skills to succeed in the role. It’s not necessary to have experience of working in the Environment Agency. Training and support will be provided. For more information about working for the Environment Agency and what we do visit our careers page environmentagencycareers.co.uk
