Technical Project Manager Cardiff, Wales

Ogi
Full Time Cardiff, Wales 40000 - 50000 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

Joining Ogi is a unique opportunity to work within an innovative Welsh business and one of the fastest-growing companies in Wales.

You may have known us previously as Spectrum Internet and NSUK, but we've rebranded to Ogi - a new name that reflects our commitment to serving Welsh communities. We’ve received a multi-million-pound investment and are currently in the thick of our large-scale full-fibre internet deployment across South Wales!

This newly created role will play a vital part in the rollout of our active network, both at the local access level and on our long-distance backhaul.

The Technical Project Manager (TPM) will be responsible for the day-to-day, detailed project management of the active network rollout including active cabinets (mini-exchanges) in our local build areas, points of presence (PoPs) on our backhaul network, core network PoPs at data centres and the connectivity between all of these.

About you...
It would be great if you have experience working in an Internet Service or larger telecom provider. As well as being an experienced project manager we are looking for someone who has extensive experience with network deployment.

This is a Technical Project Management role with specific responsibility for the rollout of Passive Optical Networking (PON), Optical Networking and Layer 2/3 switching and routing infrastructure.

Alongside this experience, you should be an excellent communicator who can prioritise your workload. Attitude is key. We want to talk to people who are eager to learn and advance their careers. Ideally, you will be Prince2, APM or PMI Certified and we’re though we’re not necessarily looking for someone to be the finished article, you do need to have ambition and passion to want to learn and develop with the team.

We place a strong emphasis on attitude, passion for technology, and the idea that "it's okay" is never good enough. Other experience & attributes we’re looking for include –
* Good technical grasp of data networking technology and protocols.
* The ability to carry out responsibilities to an excellent standard with efficiency, good judgement and discretion – thriving on own initiative and self-motivation.
* Highly organised and driven with a can-do attitude, able to work to deadlines and motivate others.
* Experience in managing budgets and ensuring cost control of projects.
* Handling complexity, ambiguity and a fast-changing, often demanding work environment.
* Challenge and influence within the project, bringing both gravitas and project management experience to support this.
* Drive momentum and delivery within projects and be clear on how to manage and work through challenges and risks.

This is not your typical Project Manager role; we are a start-up and very much all hands on deck. You’re just as likely to find our CTOO & Director of Network Engineering & Operations out on-site rolling their sleeves up as you are to find them in the weeds at our state-of-the-art NOC in Cardiff or Network Lab in Newport. The same is expected in this role, as the team grows so will responsibilities however you should expect to put your critical thinking skills to good use across our network both in the office as well as the field.

What you’ll be doing…
The TPM will plan, lead, coordinate and manage the active network deployment projects on a day-to-day basis. Working closely with Stakeholders, our Network Build Teams, and suppliers, you’ll manage delivery, risks, and issues to ensure the network is ready for service on time, on budget and to the right level of quality/documentation/testing as well as smooth handover to Network Operations.

If you’ve worked in a similar type of role you’ll know the day-to-day responsibilities are varied and challenging; typical responsibilities will include -
* Working closely with stakeholders to understand the technical requirements, “order of march” for the network rollout and budget.
* Coordinate development of the business case.
* Work closely with the Engineering Manager, Procurement, Circuit Provisioning team and suppliers to ensure required hardware, software and circuits are ordered in a timely manner.
* Securing adequate resource allocation for projects from stakeholders.
* Work with the Finance team to understand the budget envelope and manage costs within this.
* Create and lead the project to deliver the agreed outcomes within time, cost and quality constraints (the Project Management “Iron Triangle”) in a fast-paced environment.
* Responsible for the day-to-day and end-to-end project and task management, project planning, forecasting, project cost control, resource planning, risk/issue management/mitigation/escalation, change management.
* Leading on the creation, ownership and maintenance of project documentation including detailed project plan, documented statement of works, bills of material, RACI, RAID logs etc.
* Track and provide progress updates and relevant project reporting.
* Organizing and delivering lessons learned reviews.

One thing you should know is that we are a company that will support your growth, build your skills, recognise, and reward you for being part of a team that prides itself on being inquisitive, intuitive, and supportive of our successes and failures as one team.
