The School of Arts is looking to appoint a Technical Manager with high-level organisational skills to be responsible for the operational effectiveness, health and safety and development of high-quality technical support services for the School of Arts.in accordance with industry practice. The post, which reports directly to the Head of School, will work closely with academic heads and the broader academic team on operational matters, and liaise with the wider university as appropriate to ensure compliance with practices and procedures. It is also expected that in addition to the management, organisation and monitoring of the technical provision, the successful candidate will provide high quality and innovative technical teaching support in at least one of the areas above.

Background

The School of Arts is one of four Schools within the College of Education, Culture and Society and offers a portfolio of contemporary and established practice across a breadth of disciplines including, theatre, dance, film, screenwriting, media production, journalism, animation, game art, graphic design, fine art and illustration. The work is concept and ideas driven, practice-focussed, largely studio-based and strongly connected with the creative industries and professional practice. The expectation is that the Technical Manager will ensure the technical team is up to date with developments and training in order to provide support for course-based, public, community and industry events and exhibition.

The School continues to develop and over the years there has been significant investment in dedicated facilities including a Digital Arts Centre, high-spec drama studios, sound, video recording and editing studios and a large digitally enhanced performance / video recording space, a full commercial-level recording studio. animation and game art studios, a new facility for film and the Art House, which is a recently developed centre for the visual arts.

The university has a strong commitment to engaging with the community and the School of Arts works and partners with a number of outside agencies. As part of the University’s Arts and Culture agenda, the School supports a range of external events and exhibitions. This means that the place of work is not restricted to being exclusively on university premises but could be located in public or client-based spaces and include evening work. From 1 August 2023, the salary range for this role will increase to £37,100 - £41,732, with the opportunity to progress to £45,585.
