Job description

We are a growing team based in Prague, developing world-leading game-based military simulations for major NATO powers and their allies. We are constantly looking for ways to advance the whole industry, using the latest technologies and trends (such as whole-world simulation, virtual reality, and motion tracking).


Position Overview

Technical artists act as a bridge between the Artists, and the tools and graphics Programmers working on the products developed by BISim. Their primary function would be to work closely with the Lead Environment Artist and the Development Team to ensure a simple pipeline from asset production to integration into the engine without compromising the artistic direction or exceeding the technical limitations of the platform. They will be responsible for researching new technologies, tools, techniques, and pipelines and prototyping them before training the rest of the art team.


Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Be technically competent; able to bridge the gap between artists and programmers.
  • Works in collaboration with the Lead Environment Artist and the Development Team to develop tools, technology, and techniques for use in the VBS suite of products.
  • Assist with maintenance and updating of the art production pipeline for the whole BISim product suite
  • Investigate and implement new techniques and procedures for the production and rendering of content in the BISimulations product suite.
  • Facilitates the sharing of ideas and exploration of new art practices to continually improve the quality of development within the company.
  • Inspire and empower the art team to optimize their processes
  • Provide hands-on support to artists and engineers in day-by-day production issues

Management

  • Offers solid communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Observes deadlines; endeavor to exceed expectations.

Process

  • Works closely with Lead Environment Artist to maintain technical consistency and quality of all assigned projects.
  • Assists the Lead Environment Artist in the creation of artwork best practices and standards, including both 2d and 3d artwork standards.
  • Assists in the development of project technical art specification, implementation, test plans and other necessary documentation as required.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of graphics-related programming or scripting languages a plus (Python, Vex, GLSL, JavaScript, etc…)
  • Experience using state-of-the-art texturing software (Substance Designer/Painter, Quixel Suite, Megascans Studio)
  • Strong working knowledge of typical art pipelines and their development
  • Skilled in using typical 3D modeling software (Max, Modo, Maya, etc...)
  • Experience with procedural workflows and tools (Houdini, Substance Designer, etc...)
  • Able to think creatively to resolve technical challenges and limitations
  • Good communication skills
  • Able to work with minimum supervision

Key Requirements

  • 2 years of experience as a Technical Artist
  • Have a AAA title shipped
  • Written and Spoken English a must
  • Comfortable forging working relationships with developers such as programmers

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience using current generation engines, e.g. Unreal, Cryengine, RAGE, Frostbite, Snowdrop, Unity, IW engine, id Tech, etc
  • Working knowledge of Photometry and Photogrammetry
  • Experience with Virtual Reality design and integration
  • Degree in a related discipline
  • Czech language (optional)
