Job Description:Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 28,000 students in 2019-20. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,203 graduates in 2019-2020, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 36% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
The WFS Navigator is responsible for connecting with and assisting individuals who inquire about Workforce (WFS) programs to support their enrollment and enhance their success in college. The WFS Navigator will play a key role in bringing new students into WFS programs and providing them with the opportunity to achieve their goals. The WFS Navigator will serve as a recruiter, advisor and guide in the journeys of our prospective student learners. The WFS Navigator provides high-quality service in helping prospective and new students successfully complete the onboarding process
The WFS Navigator will assist interested individuals by providing guidance enrolling in workforce training programs, applying for financial aid and scholarships, identifying academic and non-academic needs and connecting those individuals to resources in a supportive and professional manner. The WFS Navigator will communicate with students on a regular basis and engage them individually and/or in small groups. The WFS Navigator will communicate with student services personnel to ensure that students have access to college resources and support that will lead to completion of their workforce program. This includes communicating regularly with students, maintaining records of student outreach and other interactions, making connections to available college and community support services, and assisting with academic interventions, when necessary. The WFS Navigator will help reduce the barriers to enrollment and to reduce the time from application to enrollment and payment. The WFS Navigator will capture appropriate data on outreach, student communications, and other interactions. The ability to utilize and learn new technology and the willingness to work in different environments is essential. The WFS Navigator will utilize a variety of technology solutions in addition to in-person interactions to connect with students. The WFS Navigator’s primary role will be onboarding and supporting students, and marketing workforce programs. The WFS Navigator will collaborate with college leadership in the execution of college recruiting strategies.
This is a restricted funded position.
Minimum Qualifications:- Knowledge of recruitment, enrollment, and advising for workforce programs.
- Knowledge of barriers to educational success and a desire to help others reach their career goals
- Demonstrated skill in academic and career counseling.
- Experience working with racially, ethnically, economically and age diverse individuals
- Strong interpersonal skills to help engage, provide support to, and motivate students
- Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to effectively follow up and follow through
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Effective problem-solving skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Proficient in use of technology, including ZOOM, CANVAS, Outlook, Microsoft Office, & Google Docs
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently as well as part of a team
- Knowledge in the development of individual action plans
- Knowledge of specific needs of underserved populations in order to attain educational success
- Knowledge of financial aid and scholarship information
Preferred Qualifications:- Knowledge of PeopleSoft and other educational technologies
- Knowledge of VCCS academic and workforce programs
- Work experience in a community college setting or in counseling or academic coaching
Coaches should have completed or willing and able to complete the Virginia Career Coach Certification program after employment.
