Job description
The British Heart Foundation is one of the UK’s largest charities and the nation’s leading independent funder of heart and circulatory research in the UK, funding over £100 million of research each year into all heart and circulatory diseases and the things that cause them. We have helped improve and save the lives of many people, but 1 in 4 people in the UK still die from heart and circulatory diseases. We want to change that for good.
BHF is governed by a Board of Trustees with a broad range of skills and experience. Under the leadership of our new Chair, Wendy Becker, we are seeking to appoint two new trustees to join the trustee board, who will have the skills, knowledge and experience to support the Chief Executive and Executive Group in delivering our strategy and providing appropriate oversight of the governance of BHF.
In addition to the key requirements of the role and to complement current members’ skills and experience, we are seeking to appoint individuals to the following roles:
Trustee/Chair of Remuneration & People Committee:
- An experienced HR director, or equivalent, with extensive experience of leading cultural and change management programmes within large, complex, organisations. You’ll have in-depth experience of human resources and people issues, including remuneration, safeguarding and equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). With an understanding of risks associated with large complex organisations, you’ll lead the Remuneration & People Committee, assisting the Board of Trustees in fulfilling its oversight and governance duties in relation to remuneration, and other people related matters.
Trustee/Retail Committee member:
- An individual from a consumer facing business environment with a strong retail/commercial background and expertise around the delivery and oversight of large-scale projects/change programmes within large, complex, organisations, who will also join our Retail Committee to assist the Board in maintaining a strong and effective line of communication between the Board and this Committee.
Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to BHF’s mission and values, and an understanding of the opportunities and challenges which we face.
We value and respect every individual’s unique contribution, celebrate diversity, and make inclusion part of what we do every day.
Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Strategy, Igniting Change, along with our internal EDI group, Kaleidoscope, and a growing number of employee network groups (our Affinity Groups), help us create an environment where all our colleagues and volunteers can succeed.
If you feel you have the skills and experience that we are looking for, and you share our determination to help fund lifesaving research, we would be delighted to hear from you.
