UE07: Salary Range: £35,333.00 - £42,155.00 (Hourly rate: £19.36 - £23.10 plus annual leave allowance) Per Annum, Pro Rata.

Open Ended Contract - Permanent; Part Time - 1 0 Guaranteed Hours towards the end of 2022/23 academic year for introduction and familiarisation with the Centre for Open Learning and course materials and a minimum of 40 Guaranteed Hours for 2023/24 academic year.

We are looking for a teaching colleague to provide preparation, planning and delivery as the course tutor in both Fashion Design and Fibre Arts, introducing students to the practical skills and techniques of these discipline through non-credit and credit bearing course. As well as fostering knowledge, understanding and contextual awareness of the subject specialism being studied. The Teaching Fellow appointed will be able to transition between Fashion Design and Fibre Arts, able to support;

  • Idea generation and keeping a sketchbook
  • Pattern-cutting skills, creative cutting and tailoring.
  • The exploration of textiles through colour, texture, pattern, form, techniques, image and tactile sensitivity, developing an awareness that textiles have across fashion and interior design contexts.
  • Awareness of sustainability, social responsibility, and fast fashion.
  • The exploration and experimentation of ideas, taking inspiration from the world around us, creating 2D and 3D works through drawing and mark-making using cloth and stitch, employing traditional processes and methods whilst fusing traditional and non-traditional materials.

The Opportunity:

The successful candidate will be a graduate with relevant teaching experience, have excellent communication skills and be able to fulfil the administrative responsibilities related to teaching. This post is offered on a guaranteed hours basis with the expectation that the appointee will teach a minimum of one evening per week during term-time and minimum of one term per year, depending on enrolments.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • First Degree and/or postgraduate qualification in relevant subject and/or significant experience and standing in a professional practice-based background relevant to the subject area
  • Experience of learning, teaching and scholarship in areas relevant to the subject area e.g. Higher Education, Further Education, Continuing Education and/or Widening Participation
  • Up-to-date knowledge of current theory and practice in teaching, learning, course/materials design and assessment in the subject area
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills and be able to fulfil the administrative responsibilities
  • Membership of the Higher Education Academy and/or completion of a formal tertiary teaching qualification
