The role requires the successful person to work across age ranges. You should have a caring, warm nature, be outgoing, non-judgmental and be able to work as a team. You will have a flexible outlook and good listening skills with the ability to be firm but compassionate in nature.
Working under the direction of the class teacher, you will support the young people in their academic learning as well as in developing their personal, social and communication skills. You will also be expected to carry out physical personal care tasks such as dressing and supporting them to eat their meals.
The candidate will need to take a child out into the community on occasion if appropriate and take part in activities such as swimming.
You should be qualified to at least Level 2 Teaching Assistant and/or relevant experience in a similar environment. Experience of working with children with SEND and complex needs is essential and experience of working with visually impaired young people is desirable. More importantly we are looking for team players with a can-do attitude, patience, perseverance, and a drive to make a difference.
