Studio Description
The Cycling Music Teachers is a collaborative team of experienced music teachers based in SE London, providing individual and group lessons and music therapy. We approach lessons from a friendly and casual perspective, with the belief that instilling a love of music and a joy for playing holds precedence over all else.
Established by Talia Girton in 2019, our studio has provided a variety of musical offerings to hundreds of local students, aged 0 to 70. We offer in-home lessons and lessons from our small studio at The Hithe, located next to Rotherhithe station and a short walk away from Canada Water Station. Our school holds several events and concerts throughout the year, and our students have a 100% pass rate on the ABRSM, RSL and MTB practical and performance exams. Our students have also won awards at numerous local festivals and competitions, and have received partial and full music scholarships to specialist secondary schools.
Job Description
We are currently seeking one additional guitar and uke teacher to join our team on a part-time, self-employed contract. The right candidate will have a degree in music and/or Grade 8 in guitar/uke, with experience working with children as young as 4 up to adults. The candidate should be able to commit to working with us for 1-2 days during the week between the hours of 3:45pm and 8:45pm. Those with greater availability and the willingness to offer both in-studio and in-home lessons will be given preference. In-home lessons will take place in SE16, SE8, SE1, SE10 and SE4. You will be expected to travel to student homes by bicycle. Lessons will be scheduled back-to-back, and the journey between houses will be no more than 15 minutes.
Teachers must live in or around SE London (Canada Water, Bermondsey, Tower Hamlets, Surrey Quays, Deptford, New Cross, Canary Wharf, London Bridge, Greenwich, Blackheath, Peckham).
You will start with 3-4 students and build your schedule as new enquiries come in. Candidates with special skills, such as pre-school music, graded exam knowledge, blues/jazz/pop/classical training and group teaching experience are preferred. This is a perfect role for gigging musicians, composers or producers who are looking for a stable, part-time income.
We are looking for teachers with upbeat, positive personalities and an effective communication style. You will be responsible for assessing students' musical abilities, delivering engaging and informative lessons, and working with parents and students to reach their musical goals. We are invested in your growth as a teacher, and you will receive mentoring sessions, continuing education workshops, student review sessions and lesson observations twice a year. We also have a monthly all hands meeting to discuss studio news and upcoming events (attendance required).
All CMT Teachers receive full administrative support, including timetabling, billing, contract management and operational policies (such as cancellations, sickness/absence, COVID-safe teaching, safeguarding etc). We also provide curriculum guidance and exam preparation assistance where needed.
MU/ISM membership (or similar), personal liability insurance and DBS certificate essential.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon!
