Overall Purpose of The Job
The Tax Manager will lead the management of indirect tax compliance risk worldwide and provide professional advice and support to the business; the role will also assist with the preparation of UK tax returns and Group Tax Reporting. As part of the Group tax function, this role will play a partnering and advisory role across group companies and will liaise with external advisors as required.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS:
Manage VAT compliance for all Isle of Man and UK Group companies including review of Isle of Man VAT Group returns, monthly payments/repayments.
Manage international indirect tax compliance risk for all overseas companies including VAT, GST, service tax, sales taxes, Customs duties.
Manage internal reporting of indirect taxes including sample reviews of year-end balances included in the statutory accounts.
Ensures proper indirect tax documentation is prepared and maintained in accordance with relevant legislation.
Ensures all VAT/GST processes are properly documented and that indirect tax treatment of all material income streams and expenses are fully understood.
Advise on VAT aspects of one-off transactions as arising.
Advise on VAT aspects of cross-border transactions.
Lead indirect tax section of desktop internal tax audit programme.
Assist the UK Tax Manager with the Corporate tax compliance for all UK parent and subsidiary companies including preparation of corporation tax returns, managing payments on account, relationship with HMRC.
Assist the UK Tax Manager with Group tax reporting, including tax input into budgets, forecasts and year end reporting, preparation of disclosure for statutory reporting.
Assisting the head of tax with ad hoc projects and advice regarding group tax issues.
Provides relevant indirect tax training to finance and business colleagues to ensure they understand their compliance obligations.Required Experience
ESSENTIAL:
Able to demonstrate a good understanding of the UK & European VAT systems.
Willingness and ability to learn and develop new skills specifically Corporate Tax knowledge.
Excellent team-working skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to advise and influence others when necessary on all related Tax matters.
Good organisational and planning skills are essential.
Good analytical skills.
Advanced knowledge of all MS office packages, in particular Microsoft Excel.
DESIRABLE:
Relevant professional qualification or HMRC equivalent;
Good report writing skills.
