This opportunity is being offered by National Aerospace Solutions, the team selected by the U.S. Air Force to conduct Test and Operations Sustainment at the Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC). National Aerospace Solutions is a limited liability company comprised of Bechtel National Inc. (as lead company) and Sierra Lobo Inc. with teaming Subcontractors nLogic Inc. and Chugach Federal Solutions Inc.
Work will be performed at the AEDC Hypervelocity Wind Tunnel No. 9 (Tunnel 9) located in Silver Spring, Maryland. Tunnel 9 provides aerodynamic simulation critical to hypersonic system development and hypersonic vehicle technologies at speeds from Mach 7 to Mach 18, a capability unmatched anywhere in the United States
Job Duties:
Systems Engineers provide engineering functions to support wind-tunnel testing at Tunnel 9. The candidate will take ownership of major systems, coordinate facility and equipment improvement projects, follow project lifecycle (planning, budgeting, schedule, execution); perform mechanical design of tunnel components and interface hardware; develop design drawing packages; develop/review analysis for mechanical, structural and stress analysis reports.
This position, under the guidance and direction of an experienced engineer, provide the following engineering services:
- Provide system engineering functions to support wind-tunnel testing at Tunnel 9
- Respond when systems malfunction during a test, troubleshooting and directive corrective maintenance activities (or calling in the appropriate systems engineer for additional support), ensuring a timely return to service.
- Perform root cause failure analyses and other equipment performance analyses when systems or processes fail and recommend remedial actions.
- Conduct and write up system safety hazard analyses and write clear work instructions.
- Update and maintain system documentation for systems of responsibility.
- Develop estimates for small improvement projects and test projects.
- Assist skilled technical staff with troubleshooting and oversee their work; provide leadership and guidance.
- Communicate clearly and utilize various methods of communication.
- It is a condition of employment to wear company issued PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited college or university and 3 to 7 years of relevant engineering work experience.
- Current United States Citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Candidates with an M.S. degree or work experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Hands on mechanical design, maintenance, or operations experience acquired through previous employment, education, or internship.
- Experience using solid modeling software.
- Experience performing Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
