- You’ll work with System Engineers to elicit and refine software requirements as well as the validation of requirements.
- You’ll work with the rest of the team to carry out high level architecture design and low-level detailed design through implementation, test and integration.
- You’ll work with the Project Manager to define the project plan and ensure delivery is against the plan.
- You’ll own the delivery of your software from requirements through development and into production from a technical and project perspective. You’ll work with other software engineers as appropriate for the project.
- You’ll work with System Test, Production Test, and Operations teams to ensure the solution is reliable, testable, and producible in volume.
- You’ll represent Viasat’s culture of innovation, inclusion, and collaboration - working together with others to rise to the challenges and opportunities that are part of an innovative, fast-paced technology-centered organisation.
- Degree 2.1(Hons) or higher in Software Engineering, Computer Science or similar discipline
- Must have, or be capable of obtaining, UK security clearance
- Full life-cycle software development experience
- Recent experience using C, or C++ in embedded applications.
- Sound understanding of operating system concepts such as multi-threading, process scheduling, inter-process communication, memory management and I/O
- Scripting expertise with bash, python or similar
- Sound understanding of Object-Oriented Design (OOD) and programming skills
- Configuration management and version control (e.g. SVN, GIT)
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills—a team player who is able to work independently and cooperatively to project milestones
- Experienced user of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc)
- An understanding of:
- Digital security technology
- Continuous integration, unit test and static analysis
- x86 architecture, hardware programming and device driver models
- NVMe
- Experience of developing for microcontrollers, ideally RISC-V.
- Networking technologies, network security and network programming.
- Requirements analysis, capture and management using IBM Rational DOORS.
- Solid C++ programming experience (including the Standard Template Library) on Linux and/or Windows platforms.
- Ability to estimate development effort of software solutions.
- Familiarity with cross compilation toolchains and on target debugging.
