This role is responsible for:

  • Contributing to the development of HSBC’s operational sustainability strategy, including developing and tracking relevant metrics to measure execution
  • Developing and implementing HSBC’s external and internal reporting strategy of operational sustainability performance throughout the Group
  • Ensuring best practice reporting standards are applied throughout the reporting cycle within audit principles
  • Identifying opportunities to drive process improvement and automation in the ESG reporting cycle
  • Working with the Data & Analytics team to develop data driven ESG insights which drive prioritization and execution of de-carbonization opportunities

In this role, you will:

  • Support the agreement of and guidance for the implementation of HSBC’s Sustainable Operations Strategy in our transition to net zero
  • Monitor transparent and robust reporting to enhance and maintain HSBC’s brand and reputation
  • Track and report on the embedding of our sustainable operations strategy execution across the Group
  • Support the Group’s sustainability reporting and ensure that the standard matches the best in the industry in respect of sustainable operations
  • Keep up to date with international reporting standards
  • Deliver a reporting strategy that satisfies shareholders and stakeholders expectations
  • Provide the relevant part of the Annual Report and Accounts (ARA) content and part of sustainability reports to stakeholders, e.g. Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), etc.
  • Act as the primary liaison with the offshore sustainability analytics team
  • Support the development of reporting strategy across operational sustainability globally
  • Lead analysis to ideate and prioritise de-carbonisation opportunities
  • Lead, manage and take ownership of projects
Requirements
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

Business

  • Bachelor’s degree in subjects requiring data analysis, i.e., maths, finance, economics, engineering etc. and Bachelor or master’s degree in sustainability-related subjects
  • Strong awareness of environmental good practice with a passion for sustainability
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the data and analytics delivery life cycle with excellent analytical skills and a strong understanding of the power and value of data
  • Proven ability to apply technology solutions to meet business needs and solve problems with demonstrable business outcomes
  • Ability to understand and operate within a multinational company
  • Delivery-focused, with ability to meet agreed deadlines and delivery high quality output
  • Strong project management planning and organisational skills
  • To be well informed and interested in environmental and social issues on an international basis
  • A wide knowledge of the Group and the areas in which the Group operates
Competencies

  • Self-starter demonstrating high energy levels, flexibility, enthusiasm and willingness to learn
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with senior managers, gravitas to negotiate and challenge conventional thinking
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, pressured environment, proven ability to handle multiple outputs at once
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and comfortable working with senior management; ability to articulate sustainability & data concepts, problem statements and solutions to non-technical stakeholders
  • Capable of developing subject matter expertise in complex areas and demonstrating a resourceful, creative and inquisitive approach to complex tasks
  • Demonstrate a passion for research and sustainability & data, be proactive, take initiative and work independently

The base working location is 8 Canada Square, London, E14 5HQ, Hybrid 2-3 days in office.
